A message from Art Costa and Bena Kallick, in the Introduction:
Habits of Mind are dispositions that are skillfully and mindfully employed by characteristically intelligent, successful people when they are confronted with problems, the solutions to which are not immediately apparent. The Habits of Mind are not just “kid stuff.” All members of the school community — students, staff and parents — can practise and therefore continuously improve their Habits of Mind. The Habits of Mind become the norms of the school. They are invested into the school culture as well as becoming the goals of the curriculum and assessment.
This publication makes a valuable addition to a growing number of resources intended to support teachers and parents in making the world a more cooperative, thought-full and compassionate place.
