Dana Lesperance has worked in Corrections since 1997 in multiple uniformed and non-uniformed positions; currently he is the Assistant Director of Corrections Education and the Community High School of Vermont. He is a professional developer for the Institute for Habits of Mind, and Adjunct Faculty at Community College of Vermont. Community High School of Vermont is a NEASC accredited independent school that operates within Vermont’s correctional system; the school is certified by the Institute for Habits of Mind as an International Learning Community of Excellence. He works with evidence-based practices of Risk, Need, and Responsivity, Motivational Interviewing, Correctional Industries, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in his work with Habits of Mind. Mr. Lesperance works to sustain a strength-based culture within corrections where Habits of Mind are integrated with risk reduction services to assist offenders in becoming productive thinkers, learners, and citizens. Through the Institute for Habits of Mind Mr. Lesperance provides professional development services to criminal and juvenile justice agencies to develop strength-based practices integrating Habits of Mind into proven practices in correctional risk reduction services. Mr. Lesperance has a Master’s in Educational Leadership; Bachelor’s in Psychology and is a retired veteran of the US Marine Corps and Vermont Air National Guard.
